What's an STI?

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are viruses, bacteria, and parasites that can be passed through sexual activity. 

STIs are like other infections people get (e.g., the Flu), but stigma often prevents people from getting tested and treated.

Sometimes STIs get referred to as STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) but we no longer use this term because the word diseases is associated with a lot of stigma and fear. 

How do you get an STI?

STIs are passed through fluid-to-fluid and skin-to-skin contact with an infected partner.

vulva with fluid
Vaginal fluid

Body parts that can pass STIs are:

Mouth
Mouth
genitals
Genitals
