How do you get pregnant?

  • Pregnancy can happen anytime there is penis and vagina sex.
  • A sperm (from the testicles) fertilizes an egg (from the ovaries), which implants into the uterus wall and grows into a baby. 
  • Pregnancy can also happen through different types of fertility treatments, for example, medication, sperm donation, egg donation.
Step 1

Ovulation – The ovary releases an egg. 
This happens once a month.

Step 2

Penis-and-vagina sex – The penis releases sperm into the vagina. The sperm swim into the female reproductive system, looking for an egg. 

Step 3

Fertilization – The sperm swim into the female reproductive system. If they connect with an egg, it’s called fertilization.

Step 4

Implantation – The fertilized egg implants into the uterus wall and grows for 9 months.

Fun Fact

Identical twins happen when a fertilized egg splits and grows into two identical babies. 

Non-identical, or fraternal twins happen when the ovaries release two eggs, which are fertilized by different sperm, and grow into non-identical babies.
