Abortions are medical procedures to end a pregnancy. There are two types of abortions.

Medical abortions- uses medications to end the pregnancy. In Yukon, you can get a medicated abortion, from 6 to 9 weeks of pregnancy. Watch this video to learn more.
Aspiration abortion- is a surgical procedure to remove the fetus from the uterus. In Yukon, you can get an aspiration abortion from 6 to 15 weeks plus 3 days of pregnancy.

If your pregnancy is over 15 weeks plus 3 days, (and up to 24 weeks) you will need to travel to Vancouver to the BC Women’s Hospital for a Dilatation and Evacuation procedure. This service and your travel are covered by the Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan or by Non-Insured Health Benefits. You will need to call or book online.

In Yukon, you can access an abortion by talking to the Opal Clinic, Yukon Sexual Health Clinic, Solstice Maternity, local Health Center or Family doctor.

Medical abortion is available to patients at all health centers across the territory. Through a partnership with the Yukon Hospital Corporation and physician clinics, the Government of Yukon offers the abortion pill, Mifegymiso, at no cost to Yukoners.

Mifegymiso is accessible through the Whitehorse General Hospital by physician referral; the Watson Lake and Dawson City community hospitals; Community Health Centres, and participating physician-led clinics.
