Abortion resources

Abortions are medical procedures to end a pregnancy. There are two types of abortions:

  1. Medical abortions- use medications to end the pregnancy. They can be done up to 9 weeks of pregnancy. Watch this video to learn more.

     

  2. Aspiration abortions- are a surgical procedure that removes the contents of the uterus. In Canada they can be done up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. 

In Yukon most abortions are done in Whitehorse.  If you are up to 15 weeks plus 3 days pregnant, to start the process, contact either:

Note: if you live outside of Whitehorse you can directly call the Opal Clinic or your Health Centre to start the process. Both clinics can also help arrange travel to Whitehorse. 

In Dawson City and Watson Lake, abortions may happen, depending on provider availability. Contact the local Health Centre or Hospital to learn more. 

If you are between 15 weeks + 3 days and 24 weeks pregnant and live in Yukon, you can access an abortion through the CARE Program at the BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver:

  • You can book an appointment online or call 1-604-875-2022.
  • The procedure and travel costs are covered by the Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan or Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB).
  • You need to book the appointment yourself, but you can ask your Yukon care provider to help.
