What is puberty?

Some people are nervous about puberty. Learning about what to expect makes it a lot easier. Puberty is when your body changes from being a kid to an adult.

  • Testosterone and estrogen are the two main puberty hormones.
  • People assigned male/bodies with a penis make more testosterone and some estrogen.
  • People assigned female/bodies with a vulva make more estrogen and some testosterone.

When does puberty start and finish?

Puberty usually starts between ages 8 and 13 years old and takes about four years to finish.

What happens when you are done puberty?

After puberty your body can make babies. Some young people find this “gross” because they are not mentally or emotionally ready for a baby. But it’s still important to understand how the body works.
